Blackstrap is sourced from some of the finest family-owned vineyards in McLaren Vale, widely regarded as one of Australia's premier red wine growing regions. The low-yielding vines produce flavour-packed grapes, which in turn make the kind of intensely flavoured, brilliantly coloured wines for which the region is renowned. Made in the excellent 2021 vintage, Blackstrap Cabernet Sauvignon is as dark and smooth as blackstrap molasses, with all the rich, ripe, peppery dark fruit character to match. Decant an hour or so before serving, then swirl in big-bowled glasses for maximum enjoyment.

Here, freedom from the corporate rule book, healthy competition between ‘mates’ and an overriding air of creativity beget great wines. Wines that have caught the imagination of critics and customers alike. Last vintage, this cracking red scored 95pts from Winestate Magazine and won two Golds! Cabernet and Shiraz grapes from top grower mates, 'rescued' from large corporate blends, are crafted here into this gently oaked red, with luscious berry fruit and underlying tones of creamy vanilla and spice. A tasty partner to shepherd’s pie or griddled steak.

The grapes for the Bullant Cabernet Merlot were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. Dark, sweet Cabernet fruit flavours with a warm heart of Merlot. The value here just can't be beat.

5 Red Star Angove is one of Australia's oldest family owned wineries, founded in 1886. They have access to some of the finest fruit in the best reds regions of South Australia. The Angove Bin 4288 Cabernet Sauvignon is exclusively and carefully crafted from grapes grown in the Coonawarra for our customers. The fruit from the 2020 vintage was fantastic – small berries, great fruit concentration and lovely tannins. Warm days and cool nights provided the perfect ripening conditions for Coonawarra’s signature variety, Cabernet Sauvignon. Upon arriving at Angove's 110-year-old winery, the Cabernet grapes were gently destemmed and placed in small open fermenters. Regionally distinctive blackcurrant, spearmint and eucalypt aromas are followed by a full palate with brooding blackberry fruit and supple, mouth-filling structure. For an added layer of fruit complexity, mocha richness and overall elegance, the winemakers blended in a tiny portion (7%) of McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine Summary

The Sandpiper range is named after the migratory bird which visits the Thorn Clarke vineyards annually from the northern hemisphere - something of a reminder of the tenacity and commitment which is required for long term viticulture. Expect classic Cabernet characters of blackcurrant, plums and a hint of tomato leaf and driven by blackberry, satsuma plums and anise. The tannins are fine yet firm and there is a powerful fruit density. Truly 2019 will sit alongside the greatest vintages the Barossa has seen this century.
