This limited release Patronus The Fawn Semillon was crafted from a select vineyard in the beautiful Barossa Valley. The wine is fresh, fruit forward and crisp with enticing aromas of fresh citrus, crisp apple and a hint of passionfruit. An enjoyable wine with balanced acidity and length. Thistledown was started by friends Giles Cooke and Fergal TynanIn, who had met when studying for the Masters of Wine exams. In their fun-loving 92pt Thistledown Cloud Cuckoo Land, Italian varietals from the Riverland come together in harmony. A vibrant, textural white with hints of almond blossom, quince and ripe pear, it's tangy, almost exotic, but pithy and delicious. It makes a great aperitif – Ned Goodwin MW in The Halliday Wine Companion asks if it might be "the best in the country?".
The Semillon comes from Juniper's two Wilyabrup vineyards while the Sauvignon Blanc is grown in their Karridale vineyard to the south. Winner of a Gold medal and scoring 95pts at Royal Melbourne, the Crossing Original White displays aromas of citrus blossom, sliced apple, gooseberry,, lemon curd and blackcurrant notes. Light to medium-bodied with a gorgeously rounded, textural mouthfeel. A riper expression of Semillon (60%) and Sauvignon Blanc (40%) showing white peach, lime and grapefruit flavours with subtle hints of passionfruit, fennel and refreshing salinity. Beautifully balanced. Lingering, dry, zesty, citrus finish. Try this with grilled seafood or a vegetable linguine. Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion appauds its "succulence and juiciness". WA wine expert Ray Jordan calls it " a really punchy blend… loaded with tropical fruit and a little passion fruit" (Wine Pilot).
The essence of summer: Take all the joy of a summer fruit salad, with the zip and zing of tropical fruit and a dash of sunshine, distil it into a wine and you will have the miracle that is Verdelho. A native of Portugal, this sumptuous grape has really made a home for itself here in Australia. It’s a wine you’ll be seeing a lot more of as it makes it way onto the wine lists of the country’s best restaurants. Love a fruit-forward Chardy without any of the oak? Partial to a tropical Sav Blanc that’s a little less grassy? This is your perfect middle-ground and will definitely hit the sweet spot.
Trophy, Gold and more Gold! Zonte's call this a "sexy, sassy, somewhat racy Vermentino that exudes so much character it just keeps you coming back for more..." With a tinge of pineapple skin on the nose. A rush of grapefruit, blanched almond and array of citrus on the entry. What follows is refreshing, tart peach and lime curd with a subtle minerality. The finish follows suit with pink grapefruit and stone fruit with a persistent zesty citrus and wet slate finish. Flavoursome and fine, with a crunchy texture and cleansing acidity to boot! Lady Marmalade Vermentino is an exciting, fresh, food-friendly white wine. "Fresh and lively, with sour lemon and Granny Smith apple flavours doing the talking" (James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion).
This cracking drop is the second ever release of this brilliant white and blends together a delicious array of varieties… vibrant and toasty South Australian Chardonnay, aromatic Viognier, grassy Sauvignon, and a touch of tropical fruit-rich Verdelho… to make a truly lipsmacking delight. Last year's vintage won Gold at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge, with the wine judges writing, "Light golden yellow colour. Pleasant nose combining white fruit, hints of apricot, toast and aromatic herbs. The palate is well-defined, fleshy, rich and invigorating, opening with lime and exuberant, persistent aromas. No shortage of character." More importantly, it's a winner with fish and chips.
