Maria has used Tempranillo for its red berry flavour, with Monastrell which lends spicy cassis notes. The grapes were picked half an hour's drive from the coast and about an hour from bustling Valencia, where Madrileños (the good people of Madrid) flock in the summer time. John Radford writes: "Spanish wine is more vibrant, happening and fascinating than it has ever been" (The New Spain) – an opinion perfectly illustrated by this velvety red.
