Wine Summary

Le Macchie shows Italy's most famous red, Chianti, at its finest – rich, ripe and complex with intense cherry fruit and notes of toasty oak. It is made exclusively for us by Franco Bernabei, a gregarious, arm-waving Italian known to his fellow countrymen as 'Mr Sangiovese'. Franco has a host of awards including 'Italian Winemaker of the Year'.

The grapes are from the Lornano estate, owned by the Taddei family since 1904 and located on the hills of Castellina not far from Siena in Tuscany. After a long, slow fermentation, Franco put the wine into French oak barrels for a year to lend a subtle layer of spice. With dense cherry and clove notes and velvet tannins, this is a wine to decant and serve with your finest pork dish or beef carpaccio.
