Wine Summary

You simply can't beat seven year old La Cantera Reserva for gorgeous, mellow complexity and terrific value. The spicy vanilla of the oak is beautifully integrated with the silky fruit.

It comes from San Valero, a top cellar in Cariñena, which was recently awarded first and second place at the regional 75th Anniversary show. Their Crianza has been one of our bestselling reds for more than a quarter of a century and the Reserva surpasses it.

Winemaker is the esteemed Javier Domeque. He selects grapes from vines up to 65 years old (the older the vine, the richer the fruit) and after fermentation allows the wine to rest for a couple of years in American oak. It's delicious on its own or with chicken with fiery pimiento, cured meats or Spanish style dishes – think lamb, paella, iberico ham.
