<p> Viognier, the exotic tasting grape originally from the tiny Rhône enclave of Condrieu, is now very much at home in the Cape. With its lovely peach and apricot aromas and tropical fruit, rose petal and spice flavours, the mouthfilling Groote Kaap goes beautifully with spicy curries and barbecued seafood. </p> <p> It is made by the hugely impressive Spier winery (former IWSC 'South African Wine Producer of the Year' no less). Founded near Stellenbosch in 1692, this historic cellar even predates most of the great châteaux of Bordeaux! Today Spier attracts thousands of tourists not only for its rich wine heritage but because within the property there is now a hotel, a restaurant and a cheetah reserve! Serve this fine Viognier lightly chilled in large glasses. </p>
