Wine Summary

80% Merlot, so particularly rounded and smooth, and aged in French oak barrels to impart a subtle clove and vanilla spiciness. It shows all the hallmarks of fine Right Bank claret – and for far less outlay than a fully-fledged Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. The 2009 vintage has been hailed as "the finest Bordeaux has ever produced" (Steven Spurrier, Decanter) and already offers immense enjoyment.

The wine was vinified in open topped fermenters with a daily 'punching down' of the 'cap' to extract plenty of flavour from the grapes. Maturation in oak has put the finishing touches to this traditionally made claret, which has good cellaring potential but is smooth enough to enjoy now. Just the ticket with rich mushroom dishes, lamb hot pot or Peking duck.
