Wine Summary

Buying truly great claret (fancy name for Bordeaux) without breaking the bank is nigh on impossible these days. If the label boasts a top estate and good vintage, in come the investors, up go the prices and off goes another precious claret to the cellar of a mega wealthy collector. Yet here's a legend in the making, which we've snapped up from right under their noses.

Château Réaut, perched high above the Gironde, was bought by Champagne house Louis Roederer in 2003. The plan was to create a claret every bit as prestigious as their Champagne. But a board change saw the project shelved, the estate sold – and new owners, wanting to make their mark. So all stock was sold off including this bold, elegant and wonderfully structured expression of the great 2010 vintage.
