Wine Summary

Some of Bordeaux's top names have recognised the potential of Fronsac, next door to Pomerol. J-P Moueix has several properties there and the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland has one, too.

Fronsac's wines tend to be a touch more rustic than Saint Emilion, with a characteristic bite – perfect for partnering lamb. Château Gromel Bel Air boasts some of the highest vineyards in the region, and is blessed with limestone soils which bring out the dense fruit character in the Merlot and are also good for Cabernet Sauvignon, not always easy to grow here.

The 27 hectare estate dates back to 1855 and today produces two award winning cuvées. Indeed the 2014 has garnered two Golds already! Silky red fruit with savoury, earthy tobacco notes and a touch of toasty oak. Open early, decant and serve with roast red meats.
