Blackstrap McLaren Vale SGM 2012

<p> BIG, inky ‘Blackstrap’ wines are as dark and intense as the locally produced ‘blackstrap’ molasses (the richest of all), and they’ve built themselves a loyal following. Of the Cabernet, one customer praised the “powerful aromas, deep rich colour and wonderful, long, true fruit palate intensity.” </p> <p> Here is the biggest, blackest, densest one to date has extremely expressive fruit, a lovely velvety mouthfeel, and is set to win even more fans. Winemaker Rob Mack, who earned his stripes at Kilikanoon and RedHeads studio, strengthens his reputation for seriously weighty reds still further. </p> <p> For this release he was assisted by vintage conditions in South Australia that had thrilled winemakers. In fact James Halliday reports how producers called 2012 “‘outstanding’, ‘fantastic’, ‘best in my lifetime’, ‘perfect in every way’… one winemaker gave it 11/10”. </p> <p> In the glass you’ll notice the intensity of colour and aromas of rich, ripe dark fruit. Then enjoy profound complex layers of blueberry, ripe plum and spice, savoury notes and an almost surprisingly elegant and long satisfying finish. </p>
